This past weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing Sarah and Brad's wedding on Friday at the absolutely gorgeous St. Andrew's Cathedral in downtown Grand Rapids. I haven't done a wedding here in about four years, so I was very excited to be here again. It was definitely more like a hot summer day in late September rather than a cool fall day, but whose complaining when our Michigan winter will be right around the corner?? (: One of those no cloud in the skies days! This bubble picture is one of my favorites as Sarah and Brad come down those awesome front steps through their crowd of family and friends. The reception was held at Lincoln Country Club on Lake Michigan Dr., directly after the ceremony, and earlier in the day we headed dowtown for all of the fun pictures with the wedding party. The blue bridge was a must, and we decided to go to the alley instead of the Gerald R. Ford for pictures, as the alley is shaded and the Ford museum is in full sun! (Not fun for me in the sun...) Below is a preview of Sarah and Brad's special day, and a few of my favorites, from amoung the thousands of shots we took!
Here is a shot of the cake, this time taken after they cut into it!
And the first dance, nicely lit with the help of all of the lights on the ceiling and walls!
Sarah and Brad during the ceremony, I was surprisingly able to move around quite a bit during the ceremony, which is a treat for me at a Catholic ceremony, considering they usually frown on that sort of thing at many Catholic churches!
The cake in it's full glory!
The table decor was also the "candy bar", with each table having it's own vase of candy and/or nuts/fruit/ etc. Each one had a scoop, and the guests were supposed to go from table to table putting a scoop of that table's treat into their candy bag, while getting to know the people at that table. I thought it was a great idea, and haven't really seen it done this way before! I wanted to raid the "dried cranberry table" but didn't get a chance to!
I think the M&M table ran out the quickest!
And these were almonds...perfect for the fall theme...
Yes, lots of shade in the alley!
And just enough wind to make Sarah's veil fly!
Sarah was non stop smiles all day long!
The flower girl yelled out "yes!!" (very loudly) during the ceremony to one of the priest's questions, and everyone thought it was adorable, this is Sarah's and Brad's reaction.
Sorry about the sun in your eyes here Brad!...
I love the depth of this church.....it goes way back beyond the altar area.
Some shots of the ladies.....with their gorgeous bouquets of lillies...
Seeing eachother for the first time, Sarah was all tears.....
Sarah was just adjusting her dress, I was going for the flying veil...!
You can't beat this door!
This was a perfect candid moment...
Okay, so the "getting ready" room was less than ideal from a photographer's viewpoint, so I started looking around......in the sanctuary was this gorgeous piano, and very reflective. Bingo! All of my detail shots ended up being done right on top of it, as there was no where to hang the dress! (The lady in charge of the church was not all that pleased with my choice, sorry!) It was hard to resist.
Gotta love that stained glass window reflection!
Finishing touches!
Off to the reception!
I wonder what's in this one?
About to toss the garter...By the way, the DJ was my good friend Eric Elzinga, whom I love working with! He is a very charismatic and very AFFORDABLE DJ and way fun to work with. He actually DJ's my husbands 40th Birthday party the night after Sarah and Brad's wedding and did an awesome job, we had a blast! If anyone is interested his number is 616.366.3256 email: ericelz@yahoo.com.
Sarah and her mom!
More bubble pictures!
The girls dresses were actually knee length, I don't see that very often, loved it!
Classic bridge shot...
Guys, you look fabulous...
Carrying Sarah over the mud puddles...
Awesome dresses ladies, and great color.
Did I mention how perfect these steps are??
Sarah's veil on the piano...
More details...
Sarah literally ran out that door to see her groom, and threw herself into his arms, oh my gosh, I almost cried!
Here they come to see eachother!
Happily ever after! Thank you again for having us capture your day, best wishes and Congratulations!!!!
